Farming Practices

We are dedicated to regenerative, organic, and sustainable farming techniques that enrich and return to Mother Earth what she so freely provides. Every AVOCA farmer has their way of tending to their farm just as every chef to their kitchen. Our farmers are committed to "beyond organic" practices that ensure the most naturally terpene-rich cannabis flower available. As we work to preserve and nurture the land that we farm, we create an environment rich in biodiversity, resulting in the highest cannabinoid expression possible. Fresh air, sunshine, and the marine layer of mist create a variety of micro-climates throughout the Anderson Valley Appellation. Each of our farms has its unique growing conditions, growing methods, techniques, and wisdom they bring to our collective table…poured into the finest craft cannabis grown in nature. Real Cannabis. AVOCA farmers use a variety of methods, such as implementing cover crops and interplanting our cannabis plants with other veggies, herbs, and flowers. We rely on insects and fungi to create a biologically diverse environment that frees our farmers from the need to use synthetic or inorganic pesticides. Our plants grow strong, healthy, and abundantly lush.

Many of our farms produce and utilize their nutrient-dense compost made from their garden/food waste. Many also have chickens, which produce high-nitrogen manure which then turns into compost for the plants. (Later- To learn more about how we use the manure click) Some of our farms even make their worm castings, and some have built up their living soil to allow the worms a sustainable habitat. The best part about this is the castings are created in the garden bed itself. Beyond Organic!

Many of our farmers take things even further, utilizing solar power, as well as rain catchment and water storage systems. Some solely grow their cannabis plants in-ground, using no-till regenerative practices. By working together as a collective of farms, we support, educate, and encourage each other to continue striving to do even better for our earth.

This commitment extends past our farms. AVOCA Farms products are mindfully packaged in recycled and/or compostable packaging. Choices like this can be difficult for small farmers due to the additional cost, but the greater good and future of our planet is a non-negotiable priority for us.
